Migration Roadmap

A phased plan for testing, prioritizing, and replacing vulnerable cryptographic components over time.

A migration roadmap is a phased plan for replacing vulnerable cryptographic components with safer alternatives over time. In cyber security, it turns a difficult transition into manageable steps: discover where algorithms, keys, certificates, and libraries are used; rank systems by risk and business impact; test replacements in controlled environments; and roll out changes with fallback options. This is especially important when moving from legacy public-key cryptography to post-quantum or other stronger designs.

The roadmap matters because cryptographic failures often spread across applications, devices, suppliers, and authentication flows. If teams change algorithms without a plan, they can break services, miss hidden dependencies, or leave sensitive data protected by outdated math. Defenders use migration roadmaps to build crypto agility, schedule updates, validate interoperability, and reduce the chance that attackers can exploit weak or unpatched cryptography while systems are being upgraded.
