Member database

a stored collection of personal or administrative records tied to an organization’s users.

A member database is a stored collection of personal and administrative records tied to an organization’s users, such as names, contact details, roles, payment status, and login identifiers. In cyber security, these systems matter because they concentrate useful data in one place: if an attacker gains access, the information can be used for phishing, impersonation, credential stuffing, account takeover, or fraud built around trust in a familiar organization.

Member databases appear in attacks when criminals exploit weak passwords, stolen credentials, exposed web portals, or poorly secured third-party services. Defenders reduce risk by limiting access with least privilege, using multifactor authentication, encrypting sensitive records, monitoring logs for unusual queries or logins, and removing data that is no longer needed. Backups and fast credential resets also help limit damage if records are exposed.
