Measurable processes

Security workflows that can be checked through evidence, records, or repeated outcomes.

Measurable processes are security workflows that can be verified with evidence, records, or repeatable results. Instead of relying on memory or informal habits, they define what must happen, who must do it, and what proof shows it was done. Examples include ticketed access approvals, logged patch cycles, recorded incident escalations, and training completion reports.

In cyber security, measurability matters because a control that cannot be checked is hard to trust. Attackers often exploit gaps between policy and practice, such as missed reviews, delayed updates, or ignored exceptions. Defenders use measurable processes to prove that safeguards are operating, spot drift early, and improve weak steps over time. This is especially important in compliance programs like NIS2, where organizations must show not just that rules exist, but that security actions are routine, traceable, and sustainable under pressure.
