Maximized window

An application window that fills the available screen space.

A maximized window is an application window that expands to fill the available screen space, usually hiding other windows behind it and leaving little or no visible desktop around it. Users often maximize apps for readability, focus, or to make better use of small displays.

In cyber security, window state matters because it changes what a user can see and verify. A full-screen or maximized window can make a fake sign-in page, support dialog, or remote-control session look more convincing, especially on compact devices where browser chrome and surrounding cues are easier to miss. Defenders also use maximized windows deliberately in kiosks, secure workstations, and training environments to reduce distractions and limit accidental access to other applications. Monitoring unusual full-screen behavior can help spot suspicious remote sessions or deceptive user interfaces.
