Material compatibility

The degree to which different materials can be used together successfully in one system.

Material compatibility is the degree to which different materials can be used together in one system without causing failure, instability, or unexpected wear. In multi-material 3D printing, it affects whether plastics, resins, metals, or flexible polymers bond cleanly, cure correctly, and survive heat or stress during use.

In cyber security, material compatibility matters wherever physical hardware protects digital systems. Incompatible materials can warp, delaminate, crack, or chemically degrade, weakening device enclosures, tamper-evident seals, cable jackets, or printed fixtures used in secure labs and manufacturing. Attackers can sometimes exploit poor material choices by stressing a weak housing or forcing a seal to fail, while defenders test compatibility to keep hardware durable, resistant to tampering, and reliable over time.
