Managed detection

continuous review of telemetry and alerts to spot suspicious activity.

Managed detection is a security service in which specialists continuously review an organization’s telemetry—such as endpoint, network, identity, and cloud logs—and investigate alerts for signs of suspicious activity. It may be delivered by an external provider or as part of a broader security operations service.

It matters because collecting alerts alone does not ensure threats are noticed or understood. In real attacks, analysts correlate events, distinguish likely malicious behavior from routine activity, and escalate findings according to agreed procedures. Organizations should clarify what data is monitored, how decisions are made, what evidence is visible, and whether the provider can take response actions or needs approval. Managed detection improves coverage, but its effectiveness depends on suitable telemetry, clear oversight, and timely escalation.
