Magnetic flakes

small magnetic particles used in a separation or cleanup concept.

Magnetic flakes are small magnetic particles used as a movable separation aid in cleanup concepts. In a remediation system, they can be mixed or tumbled through contaminated material so they contact unwanted particles, then recovered with a magnetic field. Their value comes from being easy to move, collect, and potentially reuse.

This matters most when contaminants are trapped in a difficult medium such as soil. Unlike water, soil does not flow cleanly through a filter, so separation has to work around uneven structure and tight physical binding. Magnetic flakes offer a way to make the target material easier to isolate without removing all of the surrounding soil. In practice, the chemistry that makes particles stick, the strength of magnetic recovery, and the ability to separate the flakes from the cleaned material determine whether the method is useful.
