Mac clustering

A setup where multiple Macs are coordinated to handle distributed compute jobs.

Mac clustering is a setup where multiple Macs are coordinated to share distributed compute jobs, such as AI inference, build tasks, or rendering. Instead of one workstation doing all the work, a controller assigns pieces of the workload to several nodes and collects the results. This can improve speed and efficiency, especially when local processing is preferred over cloud services.

In cyber security, clustering matters because it turns ordinary desktops into part of a managed compute environment. That expands the attack surface to orchestration tools, admin credentials, node trust, and network paths between systems. If an attacker compromises the controller or a single node, they may be able to tamper with jobs, steal model data, or move laterally across the cluster. Defenses include least-privilege access, device management, patching, network segmentation, signed artifacts, and monitoring for unexpected outbound traffic or unauthorized job execution.
