Lookalike link

A web address crafted to resemble a real service so a fake page feels legitimate.

A lookalike link is a web address designed to resemble a legitimate service URL closely enough that a user may trust it at a glance. Attackers often mimic a brand by changing one character, adding extra words, using a misleading subdomain, or registering a similar domain name. The goal is to make a fake page feel like the real login, payment, or rewards portal.

Lookalike links matter because they bypass caution rather than software defenses. In phishing and smishing, they are the bridge between a convincing message and a credential-harvesting page. They can capture passwords, recovery codes, or personal data, and sometimes deliver malware. Defenders look for domain typos, unusual redirects, and suspicious message links, while users should open the official app or type the known address manually instead of tapping embedded URLs.
