Log validation is the process of checking access records, system events, and authentication trails to separate claimed activity from activity that can actually be confirmed. It means comparing a public allegation, an alert, or a user report against evidence such as sign-in logs, admin actions, file access, and network records.
In cyber security, log validation matters because attackers, extortion groups, and even benign users can make claims that sound serious but are not fully supported. A victim listing or intrusion warning, for example, should trigger verification rather than assumptions. Defenders use validated logs to confirm whether accounts were used, whether data was staged or moved, and whether suspicious actions match the timeline. Good log validation reduces false alarms, supports incident response, and helps teams respond to proven compromise instead of rumor.
