LNG carrier

A ship designed to transport liquefied natural gas at very low temperatures.

An LNG carrier is a ship built to transport liquefied natural gas at extremely low temperatures, keeping the cargo in cryogenic tanks so it remains stable during transit. These vessels are part of critical energy logistics because their schedules, routes, and port calls affect fuel supply chains.

In cyber security, LNG carriers matter because a compromise can affect more than office data. Navigation systems, bridge displays, cargo controls, communications, and remote vendor access can all influence voyage safety and cargo handling. Attackers may try GNSS spoofing, AIS manipulation, or disruption of ship-to-shore systems to distort situational awareness or create operational confusion. Defenders focus on segmenting shipboard networks, limiting remote access, preserving logs, and using manual navigation and operational fallbacks to verify the vessel’s position and status.
