LiteLLM Proxy is an AI gateway that sits between clients and multiple model providers. It routes prompts to the right backend, applies access control, tracks usage, and can manage API keys, quotas, and logging from one central place. That makes it useful for organizations that want a single entry point for many models.
From a security perspective, that central role makes the proxy high value. If authentication is weak, default, or missing, an attacker may abuse model access, consume budget, inspect request metadata, or reach stored provider credentials. In some vulnerable setups, code execution flaws inside the proxy can also turn a gateway flaw into broader system compromise. Defenders should treat it like privileged infrastructure: require strong authentication, replace example secrets, restrict network exposure, rotate keys, and monitor usage anomalies. In attacks, the proxy is often the first target because controlling it can expose the rest of the AI environment.
