JAX-WS

A Java web-services programming model used to build service endpoints in enterprise applications.

JAX-WS (Java API for XML Web Services) is a Java programming model for building and exposing web-service endpoints. It lets enterprise applications publish methods as network-accessible services, typically over HTTP, so other systems can call them in a structured, machine-readable way. In practice, JAX-WS often sits inside middleware and application servers such as WebSphere.

Because JAX-WS endpoints commonly handle business logic and authentication checks, flaws in this layer can have serious security impact. If authentication is bypassed or misapplied on a service endpoint, an attacker may reach protected operations without valid credentials. Defenders care about JAX-WS because it is often part of the trust boundary: patching, access control review, and log monitoring help ensure that service calls are verified correctly and that exposed endpoints do not become a shortcut into sensitive backend functions.
