ISAC (Information Sharing and Analysis Center)

A sector-focused group that shares threat information among participating organizations.

An ISAC is a sector-focused organization that collects, analyzes, and shares cyber threat information among participating members. Members usually include operators, vendors, and defenders in the same industry, such as water, energy, finance, or healthcare. The goal is to turn raw alerts into context that people can actually use.

ISACs matter because attackers often target the same tools, vendors, and operational patterns across an entire sector. By sharing indicators, tactics, and defensive guidance, an ISAC can help organizations spot campaigns earlier and respond more consistently. In critical infrastructure, this is especially valuable because a generic warning may not reflect local equipment, remote-access paths, or safety constraints. ISACs support defense by adding sector knowledge, prioritizing relevant threats, and helping members validate what is urgent versus noisy.
