An inventore is the person legally recognized as the originator of an invention for patent purposes. In practice, this is not the same as the person who simply manages a project, funds research, or uses a tool; it is the individual who contributes the inventive idea that gives the claim its technical substance. In AI-assisted work, the machine may generate options, but it cannot be named as the inventor.
This matters in cyber security because invention records are a provenance issue: organizations must be able to prove who did what, when, and why. Teams using AI in R&D should keep prompt histories, output logs, edits, and decision notes so they can defend inventorship, avoid disputes, and reduce filing risk. For defenders, good documentation also helps detect overclaiming, insider misuse, or tampering with research records. The goal is a clear human trail behind the technical idea.
