Interlingua

A shared intermediate representation that can help a system move between languages.

An interlingua is a shared intermediate representation used to move meaning between languages. In machine translation, a system may encode text into a language-neutral structure, then decode that structure into the target language. This can improve coverage across many language pairs and reduce the need for a direct model for every source-target combination.

In cyber security, interlingua matters because multilingual systems often power phishing detection, incident triage, content moderation, and customer support. If the intermediate representation preserves meaning well, defenders can compare reports, alerts, and threat intelligence across languages more reliably. If it loses nuance, attackers may benefit from mistranslations in policy text, social engineering, or automated workflows. For that reason, security teams should keep source text, translated output, and review history together, and validate high-risk material in the original language whenever possible.
