Interface mediation is the way a form, board, API, or workflow shapes what information people or systems can observe, enter, transmit, and record. Its fields, labels, defaults, and validation rules define which details become part of the usable record—and which may be left out.
In cyber security, interface mediation matters because incomplete records can weaken monitoring, investigations, and AI-assisted decisions. For example, a reporting form that lacks a field for a particular event may prevent analysts from identifying a pattern; an API schema may discard context during an integration. Defenses include reviewing interfaces and data pathways for missing or unrepresentable evidence, documenting limitations, and providing escalation routes when records are incomplete. A model can only assess the information its workflow makes available.
