Intercept mode

A sudo feature designed to monitor or restrict later command execution under policy.

Intercept mode is a sudo control feature that sits between a permitted command and the programs it may try to launch later. In practice, it is meant to monitor, approve, or block follow-on execution under policy, rather than only checking the first command a user typed. That makes it useful for tight delegation rules on Unix-like systems, where administrators want limited access without giving a user free rein over child processes.

It matters because many privilege checks are defeated not by the initial command, but by what happens after it starts. If intercept mode misses an alternate execution path, such as a different syscall or loader route, a local user may be able to run an unauthorized program through an otherwise allowed sudo rule. Defenders use intercept mode to strengthen containment and logging, but they must test that every relevant execution path is covered and keep sudo updated so policy enforcement stays consistent.
