An industrial ecosystem is the full web of suppliers, contractors, workers, logistics, utilities, infrastructure, and customers that makes production possible. In sectors like semiconductor manufacturing, the factory is only one part of the system; equipment makers, materials vendors, power, transport, and skilled operators all have to work together. Without that support, even advanced technology cannot be turned into output at scale.
In cyber security, industrial ecosystems matter because they create many points of dependence. Attackers may target a smaller supplier, a remote maintenance account, or an IT system connected to operational technology, then move into production environments or disrupt deliveries. Defenders reduce this risk by mapping third-party dependencies, segmenting networks, hardening remote access, checking supplier security, and building redundancy so one compromise does not stop the line.
