Immediate debit is a payment method where money is taken from the account as soon as the transaction is approved. Unlike deferred billing, the balance drops right away and there is little or no time window to stop the transfer after the payment is initiated.
In cyber security, that timing matters because it changes fraud risk and response. If an attacker steals card or account details, immediate-debit payments can move funds before a user notices suspicious activity. This makes fast transaction monitoring, strong authentication, and spend alerts important defenses. It also affects incident response: banks and merchants may have less time to cancel or reverse a payment once the debit is posted. In phishing, malware, and account-takeover attacks, criminals often prefer payment channels that settle instantly because they reduce the chance of chargeback or intervention.
