Host confirmation

An approval step intended to validate an action during a remote support session.

Host confirmation is an approval step in a remote support session that asks the endpoint user, or “host,” to verify or permit an action before it continues. The action may be file transfer, command execution, screen access, or other privileged control. In well-designed remote management tools, host confirmation adds a second layer of trust beyond the technician’s login and helps prevent silent abuse of a live session.

This control matters because remote support platforms often run with high privileges and blend into normal administrative traffic. If host confirmation is weak, bypassed, or poorly enforced, an attacker who gains access to a support session may be able to move laterally, transfer malicious files, or execute commands while appearing like a legitimate operator. Defenders use strong approval workflows, role-based permissions, and detailed session logging to make these actions visible and harder to misuse. In practice, host confirmation is a key boundary between ordinary support and unintended remote control.
