Hooking framework

A system that lets software intercept app behavior, sometimes abused by malware.

A hooking framework is software that intercepts function calls, system events, or app behavior so it can observe, modify, or block what an application does. In mobile and desktop environments, hooks can be used for debugging, accessibility, testing, instrumentation, and security research.

In cyber security, the same capability is often abused by malware. By hooking app functions, an attacker can capture sensitive inputs, bypass security checks, hide malicious activity, or steal data before it is encrypted or displayed. On Android, frameworks such as Xposed or LSPosed can load modules into apps and change behavior at runtime, which is powerful for defenders and equally useful to spyware. Security teams watch for unexpected hooks, unsigned modules, and tampering with trusted processes because hooking can turn a normal app into an inspection point for secrets like logins, messages, and wallet data.
