High severity vulnerability

A flaw considered urgent to fix because it may create significant security risk.

A high severity vulnerability is a software flaw that can create serious security risk if it is exploited. Security teams use severity ratings to judge urgency, and “high” usually means the issue could lead to major impacts such as data exposure, privilege escalation, remote code execution, or disruption of service.

In practice, a high severity finding pushes defenders to patch quickly, restrict exposure, and review affected assets. The risk is often greater when the vulnerable product handles sensitive material, such as traffic captures, authentication tokens, certificates, or decrypted sessions. Attackers look for these flaws because they can provide a direct path to secrets or control, while defenders treat the label as a signal to investigate versioning, access controls, and compensating safeguards before the weakness is abused.
