High-bandwidth memory

A memory type designed for very fast data transfer, important for compute-heavy AI workloads.

High-bandwidth memory (HBM) is a fast memory architecture built to move large amounts of data between memory and processors with very high throughput and low latency. It is commonly used with GPUs and AI accelerators, where models must read and write huge tensors continuously. Compared with conventional RAM, HBM is designed to reduce the memory bottleneck that can slow compute-heavy workloads.

In cyber security, HBM matters because modern AI infrastructure depends on it. If HBM-equipped systems are undersized, misconfigured, or overrun, inference and analytics can stall, creating availability risk. Defenders also care about the hardware and firmware around these devices, since accelerator platforms add more supply-chain, access-control, and monitoring concerns. In practice, HBM shows up in AI servers, model-training clusters, and high-performance inference systems where speed and capacity directly affect resilience.
