Health claim substantiation

Evidence required to support statements about medical or wellness benefits.

Health claim substantiation is the evidence needed to prove that a statement about a medical treatment, supplement, device, or wellness product is true. In practice, this usually means clinical data, test results, qualified expert review, or other records that support the exact benefit being advertised. Claims like “reduces pain,” “boosts immunity,” or “cures insomnia” require more than persuasive wording; they need verifiable backing.

In cyber security, this term matters because AI can mass-produce fake testimonials, synthetic “expert” endorsements, and polished product pages that look credible but have no real evidence behind them. Attackers use this to sell scams, manipulate consumers, or push unsafe products. Defenders respond with provenance checks, audit logs, content review, and policy controls that require evidence before publication. Substantiation is important because disclosure alone does not prove a health claim is true.
