Headless means a program runs without a local display or interactive front end. It may have no window, no monitor output, and no direct user interface, even though it is still active and processing input. Headless software is common in servers, automation tools, containers, emulators, and embedded systems.
In cyber security, headless systems matter because they can be easy to forget. Without a visible screen, operators may miss abnormal behavior, bad configurations, or unauthorized inputs. Attackers also use headless tools such as scripts or browsers to automate scanning, credential attacks, and scraping. Defenders rely on logs, alerts, and remote administration to keep these systems visible and controlled.
