A guidance system is the hardware and software that keep a spacecraft correctly oriented. It combines sensors, control logic, and actuators to measure attitude, choose corrections, and point the craft where it needs to go. In practice, it helps a telescope hold its target, keep solar panels facing the Sun, and keep antennas aligned for communication.
In cyber security, guidance systems matter because they directly affect availability and mission integrity. If an attacker can inject commands, tamper with firmware, or spoof navigation data, the spacecraft may mispoint instruments, waste propellant, or lose stable control. Defenders reduce that risk with authenticated commands, signed updates, redundant sensors, segmented networks, and anomaly detection on guidance telemetry. A secure guidance system is essential because even small control errors can turn into major operational loss.
