Grid support

The transmission and network capacity needed to move electricity reliably from generation to users.

Grid support is the transmission and network capacity that lets electricity move reliably from generating plants to end users. It includes the physical lines, substations, control systems, and operating reserves needed to keep power flowing when demand changes or equipment fails.

In cyber security, grid support matters because the grid is a critical target and a fragile dependency. Attackers may try to disrupt control systems, overload network paths, or manipulate monitoring so operators cannot see where capacity is lacking. If transmission is weak, even a well-supplied power source cannot reach a data center, factory, or hospital reliably.

Defenders focus on redundancy, segmentation, monitoring, and recovery planning. In practice, grid support is often the difference between a power project that looks good on paper and one that can actually operate safely under stress.
