Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of shaping content so it is more likely to appear in AI-generated answers from chatbots and answer engines. Instead of optimizing only for ranked links, GEO focuses on how machines read, summarize, and quote content. That can include structured data, clear wording, consistent facts, and source credibility. In cyber security, GEO matters because generative systems can be influenced by the content they ingest, which affects what users see and trust.
Defenders use GEO-like techniques to make official information easier for AI systems to interpret, reducing confusion about products, policies, or security guidance. Attackers can abuse the same idea through content poisoning, fake reviews, impersonation pages, or misleading machine-readable metadata to push false answers, redirect users, or damage reputation. For security teams, GEO is part of a broader content integrity problem: if an assistant becomes a gatekeeper, the quality and authenticity of the underlying data becomes attack surface.
