FSLogix profile containers

A Microsoft profile-management method that stores a user profile in a virtual disk and attaches it at sign-in.

FSLogix profile containers are a Microsoft user-profile management feature used in virtual desktop environments such as Azure Virtual Desktop. Instead of building a profile from many small files on every logon, FSLogix stores the profile in a virtual disk file, typically VHD or VHDX, and mounts that container when the user signs in. The result is a fast, consistent desktop experience because the same profile follows the user across sessions and hosts.

In cyber security, FSLogix matters because profile attachment is part of the trusted sign-in path. If the container fails to mount, is corrupted, or the shell starts before the profile is ready, users may see black screens, missing settings, or failed logons. Attackers can also abuse profile and session storage to persist data or hide activity in hosted environments. Defenders monitor container health, mount events, and shell startup because problems here can look like malware, even when the root cause is a patching, storage, or session-management failure.
