FP&A

Financial Planning and Analysis, the finance function that supports forecasting, planning, and performance review.

FP&A stands for Financial Planning and Analysis, the finance function responsible for forecasting, budgeting, performance tracking, and scenario modeling. In many organizations, FP&A teams maintain the spreadsheets, models, and dashboards that turn operational data into management decisions. Because these files often contain sensitive assumptions, targets, and business logic, they are a security-relevant asset, not just a finance tool.

In cyber security, FP&A environments matter because attackers value the information and the trust around it. A compromised planning workbook can expose revenue expectations, cash-flow projections, or approval thresholds that help social engineering, fraud, or insider misuse. Tampering with formulas or source data can also distort reporting and create stealthy business disruption. Defenders reduce this risk with access control, versioning, audit trails, protected calculations, approval workflows, and separation between analysis files and governed systems. That makes FP&A data easier to verify, harder to manipulate, and safer to automate.
