Exploit launchpad

A hijacked system used to start or relay attacks against other targets.

An exploit launchpad is a hijacked system that attackers use to begin, relay, or amplify attacks against other targets. Instead of attacking directly from their own infrastructure, criminals repurpose a compromised host as a staging point for scanning, probing, payload delivery, or redirecting malicious traffic. This makes the source of the attack harder to trace and can help the attacker evade reputation-based blocking.

In real campaigns, a launchpad may be a server, cloud instance, or exposed application with enough access and bandwidth to reach other systems. Once abused, it can be used to hunt for new victims, launch exploits, or hide the attacker’s origin behind a seemingly legitimate machine. Defenders reduce this risk by patching internet-facing services, limiting exposure, monitoring outbound connections, and watching for unusual scanning behavior or sudden changes in CPU, GPU, or network activity.
