The European Health Data Space (EHDS) is the EU policy framework for governed access to health data across borders. It sets rules for how health information can be shared, reused, and protected so that hospitals, public services, and approved providers can exchange data more consistently.
From a cyber security view, EHDS matters because health data is high-value, highly sensitive, and often distributed across many systems. The framework pushes operators toward strong identity controls, access logging, audit trails, and rapid incident handling. In real attacks, these environments are attractive targets for credential theft, ransomware, and unauthorized data access; in defense, EHDS-style governance helps limit who can see data, detect misuse faster, and prove what happened when an event is investigated. In short, it is not just a policy concept: it shapes the technical controls required for secure, cross-border health-data exchange.
