Entitlement management is the process of deciding which services, features, or benefits a user is allowed to access. In practice, it maps an identity account to specific permissions, such as a premium plan tier, a travel perk, or a security tool. This is different from simple login: a user may be authenticated, but still not entitled to everything in the bundle.
In cyber security, entitlement management matters because mistakes here can expose paid features, administrative controls, or sensitive data to the wrong user. Poorly configured entitlements are a common source of overprivilege, stale access, and account abuse. Defenders use entitlement reviews, role-based access control, and automated provisioning to keep access aligned with a user’s actual subscription or job role. In bundled services, it also helps ensure that account recovery, feature activation, and service revocation work correctly when a plan changes or an account is compromised.
