Entitlement bypass is unauthorized access to a feature, dataset, API, or paid service by evading the permission checks that should block it. An entitlement is the set of rights attached to a user, account, project, or token, such as access to premium models, higher rate limits, or internal tools. If the check fails, a request may be accepted even though the caller has no valid right to use the resource.
This matters because entitlement checks are a core security and billing control in cloud services. A bypass can expose sensitive data, enable privilege escalation, or cause unmetered usage and cost leakage. In practice, attackers look for broken authorization logic, confused routing between trust zones, stale tokens, or mismatches between authentication and authorization. Defenders reduce the risk with server-side access control, consistent policy enforcement, strong audit logs, and tests that verify denied users cannot reach protected resources. In AI platforms, entitlement bypass can mean reaching a paid model without the expected account or API key checks.
