Endpoint privacy

Protections that limit sensitive data collection on a user’s device.

Endpoint privacy is the set of protections that limit what sensitive data a device can collect, store, or share. On a laptop, phone, or desktop, that usually means controlling access to sensors and personal signals such as the camera, microphone, precise location, contacts, clipboard, and files. The goal is to keep apps on a strict need-to-know basis.

In cyber security, endpoint privacy matters because many attacks and abuses start with ordinary software asking for too much access. Spyware, trojans, and even legitimate apps with weak defaults can turn a device into a data source. Defenses include permission prompts, least-privilege settings, app sandboxing, and centralized device management. Good endpoint privacy reduces accidental exposure and makes it harder for malware or overreaching software to collect information without clear user consent.
