Email parsing logic

The code that reads and interprets the structure of incoming email messages.

Email parsing logic is the code that reads an incoming message and turns its raw text into structured parts such as headers, body content, attachments, and MIME boundaries. It has to handle many formats and edge cases, including malformed or deliberately crafted messages. On a mail gateway or secure email appliance, this logic sits close to the network edge and often runs before spam filtering, policy checks, or quarantine decisions.

In cyber security, parser bugs matter because attackers can weaponize unusual message structure to confuse the application, trigger crashes, bypass validation, or reach unsafe code paths. A flaw in email parsing logic can therefore become a remote attack surface, especially when the parser processes untrusted mail with elevated privileges. Defenders look for strict input validation, resilient parsing libraries, fuzz testing, and rapid patching, because the parser is one of the first and most trusted components to touch hostile content.
