An electronic viewfinder, or EVF, is a built-in eye-level display on a camera that shows the live sensor feed. Unlike a rear screen, it lets the operator frame a shot by holding the camera to the eye, which can improve stability, visibility in bright light, and speed when shooting quickly.
In cyber security, EVFs matter because cameras are often used to document evidence, inspect devices, or capture scenes where discretion and accuracy are important. A clear eye-level preview helps avoid missed details, accidental blur, and poor framing when recording incident scenes, hardware damage, or visual artifacts. In offensive use, an EVF can help an attacker aim a camera more precisely when photographing screens, badges, or documents from a distance or awkward angle. In defensive work, the same feature supports reliable evidence collection and reduces the need to rely on a touch-only rear display that may be harder to use under pressure.
