eInvoicing

Standardized electronic invoicing that supports automated processing and verification.

eInvoicing is standardized electronic invoicing: invoices are created and exchanged in structured digital formats that accounting or procurement systems can read automatically. Unlike a PDF sent by email, an eInvoice contains machine-processable fields such as supplier identity, line items, tax data, and payment details, which makes automated validation and posting possible.

In cyber security, eInvoicing matters because automation reduces manual work but also increases the impact of bad data. Attackers may try to inject fraudulent invoices, alter bank account details, exploit weak format validation, or abuse integrations between procurement and finance systems. Defenses include strong authentication, schema and business-rule checks, digital signatures, least-privilege access, and audit trails. In regulated environments, eInvoicing supports traceability, but only if controls verify that each invoice is authentic, unchanged, and approved before payment.
