Durable Objects are Cloudflare’s stateful coordination primitive: a way to give an application a single, persistent object that can store data, handle requests, and coordinate work across users or sessions. Instead of treating every request as isolated, a Durable Object preserves shared state close to the application logic.
In cybersecurity, that statefulness matters because many defenses and attack controls depend on consistent decisions. Durable Objects can support session tracking, rate limiting, lock management, audit counters, and policy enforcement for browser-native workspaces or AI agents. They help prevent race conditions where two requests try to update the same security-relevant state at once. In an attack scenario, defenders may use them to detect abnormal request patterns or enforce budgets and approvals. In a compromise, they can also become a target if an attacker tries to tamper with shared state, so access control and careful validation are critical.
