A dispatcher service is a privileged background component that brokers sensitive system actions between user-facing software and the operating system. It often runs with elevated rights such as root or SYSTEM, while the application that talks to it runs with ordinary user privileges.
In cyber security, dispatcher services matter because they sit on a trust boundary. If they accept unsafe input over local IPC, parse commands incorrectly, or fail to validate paths and arguments, a low-privilege user may be able to trigger privileged behavior. Attackers target these services for local privilege escalation, persistence, or security-tool tampering. Defenders should treat every dispatcher request as untrusted, enforce strict input validation, and minimize the actions the service can perform.
