Digital Transformation (DX)

A business-wide shift that uses digital technology to change operations, services, and organizational behavior.

Digital transformation is a business-wide shift that uses digital technology to change how an organization works, serves customers, and makes decisions. In practice, DX is not just buying new software; it also changes processes, roles, data handling, and governance so digital tools become part of daily operations.

In cyber security, DX matters because every new cloud service, API, mobile app, and automated workflow can expand the attack surface. Poorly governed DX often leads to shadow IT, weak identity controls, misconfigured storage, and unsafe use of AI or analytics tools. Attackers exploit those gaps through credential theft, phishing, exposed services, and abused integrations. On the defense side, mature DX can improve logging, endpoint management, zero trust access, and incident response automation. The key is to pair technology with training and control, so change is secure and repeatable.
