DGFiP

France’s Directorate General of Public Finances, the public body responsible for tax administration and related records.

DGFiP is France’s Directorate General of Public Finances, the public authority that manages tax administration and related financial records. In practice, it holds data such as taxpayer identities, filing details, property references, and cadastral information used for land and tax administration.

In cyber security, DGFiP matters because records like these are highly useful to criminals. Even if the data is not immediately “financial,” it can support fraud, impersonation, phishing, and business email compromise by giving attackers accurate names, addresses, ownership context, and administrative history. A breach of a public-finance system may result from stolen credentials, excessive privileges, weak monitoring, or misuse of a trusted interface. Defenders therefore focus on least privilege, step-up authentication for sensitive actions, audit logging, and alerts for unusual bulk queries or exports.
