Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS)

centrally managed desktop access delivered from a shared platform.

Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) is a model where users access a full desktop session that is hosted and managed in a central cloud or provider platform instead of running locally on their own device. The endpoint mostly acts as a viewer, while apps, data, updates, and policies stay on the shared infrastructure. This makes deployment and support easier because administrators can patch once, apply consistent settings, and remove data from lost or unmanaged devices.

In cyber security, DaaS matters because it concentrates trust in identity, session brokers, and administrative controls. If attackers steal credentials, hijack a session, or abuse an admin account, they may reach many desktops at once. Defenders protect DaaS with MFA, least-privilege administration, strong logging, device and location checks, and careful segregation of tenant and management access. In attacks, DaaS can be a target for phishing and remote-access abuse; in defense, it can reduce endpoint exposure when managed correctly.
