A deployment gate is a checkpoint in the release process where a model, service, or feature must pass defined safety and security criteria before it can go into production or be expanded to more users. Gates may include red-team testing, abuse-case review, policy checks, permission limits, and monitoring requirements.
In cyber security, deployment gates matter because every new capability can widen the attack surface. For AI systems, a model that can browse, call tools, or access internal data may be safe in a lab but risky in production if it is vulnerable to prompt injection, data leakage, or unsafe tool use. A gate helps defenders slow down risky rollout, verify controls, and block releases that do not meet threshold standards. In practice, deployment gates are part of secure release discipline: they turn security review into a formal decision point rather than an afterthought.
