Deep Research

A Copilot feature for structured research-style output that is being retired in the consumer app.

Deep Research is a Copilot feature that produces structured, research-style outputs by gathering, organizing, and summarizing information into a more formal response than a normal chat reply. It is useful when users want source-like synthesis, comparison, or a report format rather than a quick answer.

In cyber security, features like Deep Research matter because they can concentrate sensitive prompts, notes, and findings into a single account-linked workspace. If an attacker gains access to the account, they may inherit prior research context, saved outputs, or confidential queries. Defenders should treat these artifacts as data assets: use strong authentication, review privacy and retention settings, and export important work before a feature is removed. In attack chains, the risk is often not the feature itself but the account takeover or shared-access exposure around it.
