Dataverse tables are cloud data tables used by Microsoft Power Platform and related portals to store app records such as customer details, forms, and business data. They matter in cyber security because these tables can be exposed if access rules, web roles, or row-level permissions are configured too loosely. In that case, data may be readable without a traditional exploit, malware, or stolen credentials.
Attackers look for open Dataverse tables in public-facing apps and portals, then collect and redistribute sensitive records at scale. Defenders reduce this risk by enforcing least privilege, reviewing anonymous access, testing portal permissions, and monitoring which tables can be queried from the public web. A “data breach” claim may simply reflect exposed table access rather than a platform compromise.
