Cybersecurity threshold

A capability line that helps determine when a model may be too risky for broad release.

A cybersecurity threshold is a capability line used to decide when a system, especially an AI model, has become powerful enough to require tighter controls or a slower release. It is not just a benchmark score; it is a policy trigger that links measured capability to risk management.

This matters because models that can assist with scanning, phishing, exploit research, or tool-driven automation may also increase attacker efficiency. Security teams use thresholds to decide when to limit access, remove tools, add monitoring, or keep a model in a sandbox. In defense, the threshold helps prevent a system from being broadly exposed before its behavior is understood. In attacks, crossing such a line may mean a model can now be misused for reconnaissance or planning, even if it was built for legitimate tasks. The concept turns safety into an operational control: once capability rises, containment and permissions must rise too.
