Cross-platform support means a security control or management tool can protect and enforce policy on multiple operating systems, usually Windows, macOS, and Linux. In endpoint security, this matters because mixed-device environments are common: the same user may work on different platforms, and a control that only works well on Windows leaves gaps elsewhere.
For defenders, cross-platform support helps keep USB rules, device control, and endpoint DLP policies consistent across the fleet. That consistency reduces weak points attackers can abuse through removable media, unauthorized peripherals, or data transfer between systems. In practice, security teams look for coverage of core functions on every platform, plus enough platform-specific depth to handle differences in drivers, permissions, and device classes. Without that, organizations may end up with uneven enforcement, manual exceptions, and blind spots that make malware transfer or data leakage easier.
