cPanel WHM (WebHost Manager) is a server administration suite commonly used by hosting providers to manage web servers, accounts, domains, email, and security settings from a central interface. WHM handles the administrative layer, while cPanel is the end-user panel for individual hosted sites.
In cyber security, these tools matter because they sit at a high-trust control point. If an attacker gains access to WHM, they may be able to create accounts, modify DNS, change credentials, deploy web shells, or alter server settings at scale. That makes WHM a valuable target in supply chain abuse, credential theft, and post-compromise persistence. Defenders should protect it with strong authentication, restricted network access, patching, audit logs, and alerts for unusual account or configuration changes. In real attacks, security teams often look for unauthorized logins, new admin users, and unexpected changes to hosting configurations.
